Export

Introduction

The export utility allows you to save program data to file such as rules, addresses and statistics information. Its primary use is for backup purposes but it can also be used to copy information to other servers that are running the product.

Usage

To export program data you must first connect to the server via the manager application. Once connection, click the File menu then select the Export option:

User Inteface

The export utility creates several files that contain program information in XML format. Choose the folder that you wish to export to by clicking the Browse button.

The Object Types section allows you to select which parts of the program will be saved. Select the object types that you wish to export.

Note: Statistics information must be exported in conjunction with the current rule set. It cannot be exported alone because it is closely associated with the rule IDs that are contained in the rule export file.

Once the export is completed it will have created a group of files that contain the specified program data. These files can be archived for later use.

It is possible to directly edit the XML files to modify the rules and addresses that are contained within them. Care should be taken to use values that are within the specified ranges for the data fields.

The XSL and CSS files are for display purposes only and can be safely deleted. They do not contain any user-created information.

Note: When exporting rules for use on other servers that are running the product it is important to keep in mind that network adapter information is specific to each computer. Rule storage files contain network adapter IDs that correspond to the physical adapters on the server. When copying information from one machine to another the adapter IDs may not match. Although the import utility provides a mechanism to map foreign adapter IDs to local IDs, imported rules should be checked to ensure their adapter is has been set correctly.
