Internet Options

Overview

Internet options are an important part of configuring the software. In particular, Download and Upload capacity have a great effect on the line utilization achieved. These values should match your true internet speed as closely as possible, otherwise the line may be over or under-utilized.

Download Capacity

Enter the maximum download speed of your internet connection. Bandwidth Controller will cap its internet receive speed to this value.

You can find this value by downloading several files from a fast internet host, then slowly increasing the value while watching the traffic monitor. When the bandwidth for the connection stops increasing, your maximum bandwidth should be that value.

In most cases it is better to under-utilize your line slightly than over-utilizing it slightly, as packets can build up when the line is not actually as fast this value.

Upload Capacity

Enter the maximum upload speed of your internet connection. Bandwidth Controller will cap its internet send speed to this value.

Upload is also sensitive to being over-utilized, so it is best to underestimate this value.

Full Speed Network Traffic

Allows inter-LAN traffic to run at full speed. 'Inter-LAN' meaning any data that is transferred between two computers on the same local network.

After checking this item, the LAN range for your local network should be automatically filled in.

Starting IP Address

Enter the starting IP address of your LAN's entire address range.

Starting IP Address

Enter the ending IP address of your LAN's range. Traffic sent to computers that have addresses within this range will not be processed by the product and are not visible in the traffic monitor.
